A beautiful and historic place to visit. Almost at the water entry point of Khanpur dam lake. An ancient Buddha's site with the 42 feet sleeping Buddha, still to be excavated. Two routes to approach, a narrow concrete built road or book a boat ride to this place. No canteen facility at this time but toilets available, also a small village of very houses nearby. Highly recommended for visit, otherwise a quite and calm place.

This is the historical place of old civilization. Bhamala Stupa is a ruined Buddhist stupa located on the bank of Hari river, a tributary of the khanpur dam. Bhamala stupa is part of the Bhamala Buddhist Complex. The disappointing thing is that we pakistanis are not aware the importance of historical places not on government level or not national level. The one important thing is the road condition. The road condition is very poor specially for car. Jeep is recommended, however we reached there on car but driving is not easy due to stones and humpy road.

Newly discovered Gandharan stucco masterpieces from Bhamala, a few miles west of Taxila, above the waters of the Khanpur Lake. Archaeologists have also recently found fragments of the earliest known reclining Buddha, probably carved in the 2ndC AD.

The remains are well preserved and the location itself is beautiful. Surrounded by hills and blue water there's greenery all around. However the road leading to the stupa is single lane and dilapidated but it's worth the trip.

Excellent place to visit. The road is rough and narrow. It's about 5km from Khanpur. But it's worth going there

What a fantastic place to visit in summers. The last 10km are a hell though. Not much road. Gravel n mud. Tight bends, single road. JDM's can hav a real hard time as they r low rides. But worth every single min of the effort. Stupa is a beautiful place to b. Takes u back into another time and place. Further ahead, u will reach tht beautiful stream n the pond of the ravine tht comes from mountains. Reach early. Settle. Get tht bbq grill wid u, friends. Family. U wil love this place!
