I will be filing an official complaint through PALS against Joanne Rukin who works at the reception desk at North Tees Hospital Emergency Department. I took my 4 years old daughter to the ED on Sunday, 25th November 2018 at 20:30 hours, following a fall and cut injury to her gum which resulted in significant loss of blood and dislocation of front tooth. Prior to making way to the ED we were assessed through 111 and advised to go to the ED due to amount of blood lost and potential head injury as a result of the fall. On arrival, I was told by Joanne Rukin that nothing could be done, that ED does not deal with teeth emergency, and to go home and call my dentist in the morning. I raised my concerns regarding the position of the tooth and a possibility of it coming out at night potentially causing my daughter to choke, however my concerns were completely disregarded in a rude and dismissive manner by Joanne Rukin. It is extremely sad that despite the fact that both me and my wife collectively contribute over 1,000 month to the NHS through our NI contributions, in case of an emergency such as this one affecting our children, we are denied to see a doctor. I have brought my daughter back home and will be monitoring her temperature throughout the night. Needless to say that if my daughter has indeed suffered head injury, I will be suing Joanne Rukin and the hospital.
