I felt it necessary to post my experience to balance the one single review the building department has. In my experience, the Building department has been very helpful and willing to offer advice and guidance through the few projects I've done. The office staff are decently knowledgeable, and the inspectors are fair and not \out to get you\ My two gripes are that a couple of times I've spoken to some really grumpy people, and that everything happens fairly slow due to large volumes of requests.
