We were satisfied with the swimming and the space. It is one of the experiences you want to bring from São Miguel in your memories. Suitable for snorkeling beginners, you can catch more species of fish. Transportation to and from the island is also an experience.

If you can book ahead online, do so! The line is huge in the morning. We got there at 8h30 and there were already 45 people waiting. Lots of them were groups. By the time the counter opened and that we passed, there were only 50 tickets left. So plan ahead! In the morning, the water is pretty low and you can walk the whole islet instead of swimming. There is also a little beach that children seem to enjoy. A bit after 12, the beach is completely gone and water fills the islet. It was a great day with the family. Bring your own food and drinks as there is nothing there and that you cannot go and come back taking the boat as you wish. Snorkeling here was great, if you look closely you can see fish camouflaged in rocks as well as a lot of colorful exotic fishes. Also, be careful and watch children closely as we saw a couple of adults falling and many children that hurt themselves. Everything is built on rock and cliffs. It's slippery and easy to fall into.
Nice to take sun bath and do snorkeling. Afternoon was not so crowded. We took the last boat and they gave us tour around the Island. My girlfriend was very happy that I took her there.
Unique and wonderful place!!! We got on the 3rd boat on a weekday in July and we were there about a half hour before they opened at 9. Online ticket site doesn't seem to work so we rolled the dice. Apparently they pre print out 400 tickets and just sell until they have none left, as the total amount of people on the island per day is 400. I believe that residents/Portuguese are given priority and may get their tickets in advance because we saw many able to just walk right up to the boat line instead. Another family from America were on their 3rd try getting tickets. We got 'em on #1! Bottom line....get there early in Summer....or maybe you'll get left over tickets very late in the day.
Ok place to relax for hour or two, but i honestly expected better view and deeper water.
A must visit! Aim to book tickets online if you can - this let's you skip the long ticket line. Also, this secures your spot on the islet (they only sell a limited number of tickets per day). At the ticket office, you can rent a snorkel for 10 and it's so worth it!
We loved this island!!! Wait in line early (we got there at 8:30am & the ticket booth opens at 9:45am) if you want shade, the only spot is beside the lifeguard station. Must get there early to get a spot! Bring snorkel gear - so many beautiful fish to see!! Water shoes help because its very slippery..
