I am a long time private pilot who recently started working on an instrument rating. In a Cirrus SR20 I have been introduced to the marvels of glass cockpits. I found the Redbird Simulator experience to be a very valuable training tool. In many ways it is better than an actual aircraft as you can learn and make mistakes in a low stress, less expensive environment. David Vail is a very competent, experienced flight instructor who consistently exhibits a patient, positive attitude with his students. I look forward to spending more time with Dave in the Redbird as well as getting up in the air with him.

I've used the Redbird both as an instructor and for my personal use.. There's no better way to stay proficient, particularly during New England winters, than this sim. It sharpens system management skills and allows you to practice things, like STARs into Class Bravo airports, that you rarely have the opportunity to do in GA flying. It's particularly useful in practicing emergency procedures and system failures.

Boston based pilots, this was a total find for me - and we are very privileged to have a new full-motion Redbird simulator in our backyard at KOWD! The owner is retired military and a highly certificated pilot - so the leadership, attention to detail, and aviation skills all show and blend together to make one top-notch operation. The sim rooms are on par with what I see at Flight Safety corp training environments and are inviting and conducive to learning. Highly equipped, even WiFi, BadElf (simulates your location on your favorite app), setting the stage for great experiences. Coming from a G1 SR 22 Avidyne, I have been using the RedBird sim to supplement my transition/IFR procedures proficiency to the Cirrus Garmin Perspective - and it has proved to be a safer more economical way to train/transition. An added bonus is that I am able to log 25 hours PIC toward my ATP and legal log IFR currency all solo (goggle Redbird LOA for more details on what you can do reg wise). Can't wait to check out and work the numerous failures you can simulate as well as other scenarios all pilots think about and can't (hard to) do safely in the real world. Students just starting out would benefit immensely from this - wish it was around when I was doing my private and instrument. Possibilities are truly endless - a total kid in a candy store feeling. The owner was very responsive to my questions and accommodating to my needs from my initial reach out.

Facilities and equipment are immaculate and new. Dave who runs the place is a super guy and pro pilot, very helpful. It's nice to be able to perform 5 different instrument approaches with all different kinds of weather, plus unexpected emergencies in a one hour flight! You could never accomplish so much in that period of time in a plane. Very productive use of time and yet still enjoyable, after 3 minutes you forget you're in a simulator...Highly recommended

Fantastic experience doing the G1000 checkout. Small class sizes made for much personalized one on one instruction. The simulator was outstanding as it is a full motion. Gives just enough realistic feeling to almost forget when you get busy in the cockpit that you're not actually flying. This was my first time at this location and working with David and I think he did a great job explaining the system for the Perspective and G1000. Aside from my the checkout class he has a great instructing personality and is very very knowledgeable in all areas, always had an answer for all of my questions and would have a discussion about them too. Would highly recommend the sim for IMC currency or even training. Cost effective and a more relaxed way to obtain knowledge and learn, rather than trying to fly in real life and learn. You can easily get checked out for using the simulator on your own as well which is nice if you want to just work on a certain task yourself at anytime. I will certainly be using it many more times going forward with my training.

I HIGHLY recommend a couple hours with Dave in this simulator. Dave is a great trainer: VERY clear; very upbeat very enjoyable. And he was really good at challenging my learning in all the right ways (pushed me when I got sloppy, engaged all of my questions). His Redbird Simulator is a fantastic training platform. After 40 years on steam gauges and some time on Garmin 430, this was my intro to Glass Panels. The time flew by, and I really felt like I got a sense of both the Cirrus and the Cessna Glass panels in this introductory session. On to more learning...

Adding the Wings Level RedBird simulator into my flight training has been an eye-opening decision. Having the ability to work with my CFI on different procedures, and being able to stop, discuss, and re-do a procedure, has really helped me to better digest and understand the concepts or tasks I’m learning – and gives me great confidence to apply what I’ve learned to my actual flying. Their RedBird interacts with ForeFlight on my iPad just like a real flight, and I always end my simulated flight being surprised to realize that we've never even left the ground (which is especially nice when the weather is lousy). This is a terrific, cost-effective and fun way to enhance anyone’s flying or training, and I highly recommend it to anyone who flies or is learning to fly.

This is a great addition to aviation resources in the Boston area. The simulator is a much improved experience over using x-plane and in many ways better than flying under the hood. It is great to be able to break out of the clouds in LIFR and see the ground, but not the runway because the visibility is low. The motion of the sim isn't full, but you do get very caught up in it feeling like the real thing. I fly the sim with the G1000 C172 panel and having the knobs and buttons to really turn and press for a G1000 makes this a pretty realistic experience. Of course, you save a lot of money flying the sim to keep current, as I'm doing this winter. Its fun to set yourself up for approaches you would otherwise never get to fly because the airports aren't local. Also, the sim is good for practicing various maneuvers, such as the "impossible turn". Dave has the sim set up to talk to Foreflight and Flightplan Go, so I really can "fly" as if I was in the actual plane. If you create a USB "key" on the Redbird site, you can download your flight and import it into CloudAhoy for a further debrief. Dave has been very responsive to suggestions for improvement (such as the CloudAhoy link) and answers customer questions usually within a few hours. I give this simulator experience five stars.
