Yocum Institute for Arts Education Reviews | Rating 4.5 out of 5 stars (5 reviews)

Yocum Institute for Arts Education is located in West Lawn, United States on 3000 Penn Ave. Yocum Institute for Arts Education is rated 4.5 out of 5 in the category art school in United States. Established in 1934 by Chester Wittell as the Wyomissing Institute of Fine Arts, the Institute opened its doors with 3 music students. Under Lila Lerch, the first managing director, the Institute grew to over 300 students and expanded its offerings to include music, dance, theater, and visual art instruction. An arts-based preschool and kindergarten were added and the Institute became licensed by the state. It is also home to the Yocum Gallery, a venue for exhibits and performances, the Berks Art Alliance, and Art Goes to School. Over the years, the Institute has forged partnerships with schools and other non-profit organizations to increase access to the arts for both arts and non-arts outcomes. In 2005, in response to a challenge grant, the Institute launched the “Learning Through the Arts” campaign. Funds from the campaign were used to research and develop Primary Stages, the Institute’s signature theater program for children’s productions and arts education. In May of 2018, The Yocum Institute’s Dance Department merged with the Academy of Movement (AOM), formerly located in Sinking Spring, to develop a level of dance programming unlike any other. The combination of dance programs will provide opportunities to dance students of all ages and levels of experience from toddlers to adults. Every genre of dance is represented. Students can opt to take one day masterclasses, camps, and workshops to semester long classes that will culminate with a recital.

My son started class here last year. He immediately fell in love with the class, his instructor, Johan, and the group of boys he met. We felt welcomed into the group and he is always so excited to go to class. I'm so glad we were able to find an extracurricular activities that he WANTS to go to. There's nothing worse to me than feeling as though I'm forcing my son to participate in an activity or sport that he doesn't truly enjoy. So glad Yocum moved to Sinking Spring. Can't wait for fall classes to start!

It was a great place until it moved to sinking spring and was combined with aom . That was probably two of the worst things they have done. The place is overly packed now and they have too much going on in one day. Maybe if it was like the old yocum in wyomissing and not so packed they'd still care about their dancers but now it seems like they only care about the money they are making off of you. This place is only after your money they have no interest in your dancer or whatever it may be your child takes through them. Horrible since they combined with academy of movement.

This is the best place to get the complete arts experience. Classes offered in Visual Art, Music, Dance and Theater. Classes for children and Adults are available at the beginning of every season, check online at the website, or stop by and pick up a brochure. The instructors are passionate about their area, and care about their students. Classes are small, and students receive excellent instruction.

My sister takes Ukelele here and used to take drawing class with Juan. Why I give 4 stars is that my sister says that Juan doesn’t teach them anything or help them.
