Banning scales was never a problem for me my truck was always clean coming into California. My wheel weights where always right from After retirement from the Army. I drove 18 Wheelers 48 States and Canada. A Million miles in 10 years then I came home 1989-99 Marten transport had California base plates. Never had any problems with any California weight stations Shure heard some stories of other drivers that did

I believe they can do better. Take a listen CHP. Want to be more efficient? Remove the stop sign before the scale. Most other CHP weight stations have us continue slowly, nonstop through the scales. You can do the same here. They can do their job and we can do ours in a more smooth way if they pay more attention when the ramp is full. I've been through here many times, the ramp is full and they keep pulling truck drivers in. They have cameras along the ramp and they can see when is full. It would be great if they would work with the truck drivers and show the \scales closed\ sign in the digital screen, every time the ramp is packed with trucks. I've seen the \scales closed\ sign on a few times so I know they can do it. I also think they need to upgrade the way they check the trucks before entering the ramp. Arizona has a system that allows the operator to check incoming trucks. If no violations are discovered, the operator gives them a \bypass scale sign\ in a digital screen, before trucks enter the ramp. With this system, only trucks that are not cleared by the operator are directed to drive through the scales. I really hope all the states will have this system in place in the near future.

California has the most restrictions on trucking than any other state. I haven't had a bad experience here, except they have a really bad reputation on letting trucks back up into the I-10 lanes, which vehicles fly by at 70 plus miles an hour. They are going to cause a fatal accident by bringing every truck into the scale house. I understand they want to find operators or companies not doing what they are supposed to, but at the cost of lives, I think Banning Scales need to reevaluate traffic vs trucks at a stand still past a certain point on the off ramp. I'm Hazmat and having someone rear end my tanker would cause a huge catastrophic event that CA DOT doesn't have the money to write a check for. Maybe allowing rolling scales would help relive truck traffic building up onto the freeway. I'm giving 1 star as they don't consider safety for other drivers.

Good and bad experiences don't expect to have 1 or the other ever. You never know until its over. Do your inspections keep your papers in order and most of the time they are okay. Don't expect leniency. You will not get a break. If its close its bad. Remember that and it will be better.
