It's a great trail by the river

Loved the trail but be advised you may very easily miss the rock itself. It's right by the river down a steep trail. Loved the creeks, waterfalls, and mountains surrounding it. Chatooga river was gorgeous. Rugged trail not for the faint of heart and it gets more difficult the farther you go...

Interesting hike along a variety of different ecosystems. Some switchbacks with elevation but a pleasant reward with the river. I encourage you to read about the specifics of the actual Ellicott Rock - you have to stand IN the river to actually see the carving - so if water is high, swift, don't try. In warmer months, be alert for copperheads and cottonmouths along the trail as it borders the river. Don't freak out, but be alert. I noticed a few geocaches if that is your thing.

No parking, bugs and snakes everywhere. Getting to a good fishing hole is a pain.
