One of the main suburban stations in Chennai so better than the other local stations. Well maintained, all shops are open most time and prices are reasonable. Most times the station will be crowded.

The places are difficult to find here the ticket counter for Chennai Central station in suburban building. There are different counters for different trains (express and local trains). If you are in a hurry it's better to ask a nearby RPF and get help

The Chennai Suburban Railway is a commuter rail system in the city of Chennai(Madras), Tamil Nadu, India, operated by the Southern Railway, one of the operating railway zones of the Indian Railways. It is the second largest suburban rail network in terms of route length and the third largest in terms of commuters in India. Around 1000 EMU services are operated daily from 4.00 a.m to 12.00 a.m. Chennai has a complex railway network. It is the third busiest suburban rail system in India after Mumbai and Kolkata. It has separate tracks for local and express trains. The system uses electrical multiple units (EMUs) operating on alternating current (AC) drawn from over-head cables through the catenary system. The total system spans around 1,174.21 km of which only 509.71 km have dedicated dual tracks for suburban EMUs, the rest share tracks with other trains and are called mainline EMUs (MEMUs). As of 2013, the suburban sector has 1000 services, including 250 in the Beach–Tambaramsection, 240 services in the Chennai Central–Arakkonam section, and 90 in the Chennai Central–Gummidipoondi. As of 2015–2016, 1.46 million people use the suburban train services daily. This includes 500,000 in the Beach–Tambaram section, 350,000 in the Central–Arakkonam section, and 100,000 in the Central–Gummidipoondi section. This is a 13.2 percent increase over the previous year. A total of 65 stations in the suburban section have bicycle stands.

Affordable and easy access for everyone, commuters are accommodative and adjusting to the situation, trains are kept clean most of the time. Authority has to take more stringent action against bill stickers which is a eye sore are can provide saperate information board on every platform for them to avoid adverticers using train inner compartment wall defacing.
