You are better off going to a middle school science fair.

I clearly remember my first trip to the Russel C Davis planatarium as a child no older then eight with my father, the projector in the the middle of the theatre was a thing of wonder to a child and the visuals were captivating compared to whatever cable programing I might have seen in the late nineties, I remember getting a gyroscope and some "neopolitan astronaught icecream" they sold in the gift shop.we went backevery one to two years and I have been a part of a few events hosted there. Every member of staff I have ever dealt with came across as not only having the knowledge but also had a passion to cheerfully listen to a curious kids questions then provide not only answers but also tried to make it a memorable experince. I am sure I am just one of many kids who found an interest in atronomy because of the planatarium. Working downtown I have had the pleasure of meeting Micheal Williams the newest dirrector multiple times and he seemed to share those same passions. I think its a no brainer it is a valuble STEM rescource. I'd urge anyone reading reviews during march- end of june 2020 to take the 1 star reviews about closure after a long drive to be a fair representation, during a pandemic it would be prudent to call ahead before assuming.

Like other reviewers, I have to say this place is in sore need for updating and it's a crying shame that the city doesn't support this adequately. That said, our Grandkid's Spring Break was different from the local schools and we were the only one's there, but the staff treated us royally and turned what could have been an awful experience (because of a car-sick kid) into a fun, unique outing.

The Russel C. Davis Planetarium is one of two planetarium statewide. It is located in downtown Jackson and is dedicated to imparting knowledge about space earth the environment the human body and the sciences in general. For those who don't know the domed ceiling is used as a screen and movies about various subjects are projected there. The movies generally take you to the place described for instance space or inside the human body. If you're in town with kids this may be a fun distraction. If you are local and happen to never have been you definitely should go.

I loved to go as a child. That was when school's took educational field trips! Now, I have the pleasure of taking my son to learn, enjoy and explore!

They don't accept debit or credit. It has poor ventilation and me and my son are very sensitive to mold so we were miserable during the entire movie. Didn't see the stars at all. Most of the seats are broken and the entire building is in disrepair. My 8yr old liked the movie but he's not hard to please. I hope upgrades and improvements come soon...it was not worth the money.
