Stornoway house has a long history of being the home of royalty and distinguished federal leaders of the opposition members of parliament. This includes the Royal Dutch family and Princess Juliana of the Netherlands while in exile during WWII. In gratitude of this support the Netherlands have sent millions of tulips bulbs whose flowers can be seen all around the city of Ottawa in the spring (April). Check out Commisioners park and the Man with two hats. Stornoway house is also home of the leaders of the official opposition since 1950. This includes: John Diefenbaker, Lester B Pearson, Joe Clark, Robert Stanfield, Pierre Trudeau, Brian Mulroney, John Turner, Jean Chretien and currently it is occuppied by Erin O'Toole. Fun facts. * The house was originally built 1914 by Ascanio Joseph Major * The property's name, Stornoway, was given by the second property owners the Perley-Robertson family in memory of their ancestral town of Stornoway, which is found on the Island of Lewis in the western islands of Scotland. The island of Lewis was originally a Viking settlement. If you like like my reviews, photos or videos give them a highlands thumbs up.
