Great guides, great staff, gracious hosts, beautiful plantation and awesome facilities. Have been going there now for ten years, consistent high quality bird hunting in a class of its own. Large coveys, fast birds, and oh yea, some good shoal bass fishing too.Great place to get away from it all and to enjoy the outdoors. Would give it six stars if I could.

I have been to Rio Piedra twice with my son and we had a fantastic time. I have been to facilities all the the country and this is first class and yet very down to earth owners. My only complaint is that my 22 year old son at the time ditched me one night for a date with a beautiful southern girl we met while there. She was cute as a button!! So much for father son bonding.

I was invited as a guest from Intermountain Wood Inc.. The facilities we're fantastic and the food amazing. I think my favorite part was the dogs working to find and scare up the birds. I had two different guides who were very knowledgeable about the area. I recommend this to anyone, it won't disappoint. Next time I go I want to take my wife!

Rio Piedra is exceptional across the board, great quail hunting, beautiful habitat, solid dog work, and friendly guides are equalled by the food, fresh baked breads, and hospitality. Rio is well suited for couples and my wife and I look forward to our return each year. The Atchisons are outstanding hosts and make you feel comfortable and at home during your stay.

Visiting Rio is a fantastic experience. The most important part, for me, of a trip like this is the food and believe me this place does not disappoint! The lodge has a very friendly atmosphere during the times when no one is hunting and I enjoyed sharing drinks and stories with the other interesting guests. If you forget any gear, there are items to be purchased in the lodge. All of the staff was helpful and professional. You don't go to Rio Piedra solely for the accommodations, however. The hunting was a blast (no pun intended) on very well managed grounds. The open jeeps we're fun although if it is cold, be sure to bring along a warm hat for the ride. All three of the guides I hunted with (Shaun, Josh, and Drew) we're entertaining and worked hard to get us on birds. Drew had easily the best trained dogs. Shaun would be good for beginners or hunters who do not hunt often as he is good at managing the hunt and providing tips or pointers (pun intended). Josh is at his best with experienced hunters who aren't afraid of a little effort. He was having dog problems but was the most spirited, and we had the most exciting hour of the whole trip stomping through tall brush to find the most birds I have ever seen (easily 150 to 200 in an hour!!). All around, Bill and Anne have created something awesome there and, the privilege to go to Rio is not one that you should pass on!
