Absolutely perfect - terrific service, traditional but spacious surroundings in a historic building, and excellent food. It is heavy fare generally so probably not good for a light lunch, but it is a quintessential experience. Any guests of ours in Madrid we would happily take here.

We didn't even plan to get dinner in our last evening in Madrid, but then we spotted a few small elegant tables in a cobbled street. We were welcomed by a very nice waiter who engaged in pleasant conversation, while also offering us some hints on what to order. We couldn't resist the roasted lamb, which is their specialty.

Amazing place. Super professional and courteous staff. Best food in Madrid. Try roast lamb or lose yourself in the menu and leave it to them to feed you. You won't regret it. We went with our seven year old, a very picky eater, even she left super satisfied with the food, desert and the kindness of staff. I find this place authentic, not a tourist trap like many other places that claim to be the oldest and the greatest.

Restaurant was nice and service was good. However, the quality of fish wasn’t amazing and didn’t match the price tag it came with. The salmon didn’t taste fresh and the portion was definitely way too much for 1 person as well. Seabass still had fish scales on the skin. At least for the fish options, it was not worth the price at all and disappointing given the good reviews I’ve read.

This is such an amazing place. Must try is their lamb - tender on the inside and crispy on the outside.
