The Place de la Bastille monument was built on top of where the Bastille prison used to be. The prison was destroyed during the French revolution in between 1789 and 1790. Lots of lives were lots during this revolution and some locals argue that the monument also represents the need of build a peaceful society. Lots of coffee places in that area to sit and appreciate the view. Close by the Canal Saint Martin with its beautiful shaded river path. Subway is: Bastille

I like the place, for me it's mixing from old and historical place and a modern style of fountain. Overall I suggest all tourists who will visit Paris to have a quick visit and take some photos.

Bastill, a place that is always so full of Life, the place to sit around the centre for a relaxing moment with yourself or with your beloved ones. A market downtown on a Sunday's noon is the to go if wanting to support local farmers with fresh finds like vegetables, fruits and if you're into a taste of France, a taste of real French \Fromage\ and local produced \Miel\ which is the honey from bees that is handled with care and Love for the insects. Close to public transportation not so far away with a bike or scooter, there is Sacre Cœur and the inner City of Paris like Notre Damme and Pont De Arts! Many incredible things to do all at once. Write your list and go for adventures on the magnificent Streets and corners of Bastille!

At the end of Boulevard Richard-Lenoir is the Place de la Bastille. Here used to be the fortress Bastille, which was built at the end of the 14th century. The fortress measured 66 x 34 meters and the four defense towers were 24 meters high. During the 17th century, the Bastille began to be used as a prison. It was here that Voltaire was imprisoned and then wrote about his mysterious prisoner, the Man with the Iron Mask. On July 14, 1789, the Bastille was stormed and this event marked the start of the French Revolution. The basilica was demolished and today the 47 meter high July column (Colonne de Juillet) commemorates the July Revolution (1830 revolution). The July column was erected between 1833 and 1840 and is adorned with the gilded bronze statue of Génie de la Liberté.

A very wide plaza decorated by the column of July which was erected between 1835 to 1840 to commemorate the 1830 revolution that saw the fall of Charles X. There are lots of restaurants and the Opéra de Paris.

Historically this is a super important and interesting place as here the French Revolution started. Nowadays even though the Bastille is gone there is still a monument to honor the participants of the revolution. If you're historically interested, definitely pay the Place de la Bastille a visit.

Hooray for the destruction of a horrible tool of tyranny. Metro stop Bastille. Lots of nice coffee shops in the area.
