Thomas Edward Lawrence was a very unassuming character and lived in this very unassuming house. Personally, I felt a great affinity with it. Lawrence is one of my heroes for many, many reasons. Seeing where and how he lived affected me quite deeply. The house itself is very sparsely furnished, just as it was when he lived there. Nearly all the items in the house were designed and commissioned by Lawrence himself. You will appreciate much about the man on by seeing these things. The house is set in a three quarter acre plot which must have been wonderful surroundings for him. If you can appreciate that great people do not have to live in great houses, you will appreciate this place.

This is the property where TE Lawrence (Lawrence of Arabia) spent the latter part of his life until his untimely demise down the road after a motorcycle accident. Lawrence was a confirmed bachelor and his small house was adapted with some quite laterally thinking concepts to make his life easier (such as lining his bedroom with foil for insulation, etc.). The National Trust do a very good job of preserving this property from decay and it is a pleasure to visit.

This looks to be a fascinating stop for any tourist. I can't wait to see it. I've studied TE Lawrence for years. I live in TX, and I will make this trip to England once COV-19 ends. Thanks for all the reviews on this site. I've learned a lot.

A NT property and the home of T. E. Lawence (of Arabia). Set in a beautiful wooded area that has a steep trail through it with vantage points to look down at the house. The main house is very much as it was left with unique designs in the bathroom and bedroom to provide more comfort. In the outer store are fact boards and life history. The guides are very knowledgeable and helpful.
