This is one of the ancient human settlements not only in Masbate, but in the whole Philippines. Bat-ongan Cave is not mainly a for-tourism-purposes only place, but a historical one. Too bad that the local government was not able to prohibit its visitors from vandalizing the place. There are wild animals inside, too. Protection must be prioritized.

Entrance P10 pesos per head. Tour guide is P150 per group. ATV rides is available for rent. The area had underground river, undisclosed cave opening, jar burial, Vietnamese artifacts, and so many more. The only problem here, the area is vandalized and litters are left behind by tourist. There are many treasure excavation holes. Anyway, over all, the area is beautiful except to the damages done by tourists. In the news, the Governor of Masbate said that the Provincial Government will take care of the rehabilitation and management of the cave. I hope the will happen very soon.

Batongan cave is located in mandaon masbate. Its at least an hour drive from balud. Its owned and titled by a local resident of masbate. We paid 10php per pax including a tour guide named kuya KANO and RAMON. Batongan cave requires a short easy trek to reach da cave but another 30mins trek up da hill. As always,i ask da help of locals and tourist to keep da place clean by avoiding vandalism and unwanted trash,thanks #riobrandybachusgalahad
Great cave and mountain to climb, you can take a van from masbate for 120php,its about an hour ride. Make sure that you are back on the road on time because the last bus leaves between 4 and 5 pm back to masbate from the nearby city. We were too late and had to jump on the back on a motor cycle who passed by, great experience though :)
