One of a couple archeological sites on the road to Belvedere Lookout that give a glimpse into Polynesian culture. Both are well worth a stop to explore. Hike around a little to access the creek near the Mare for a taste of the tropical rain forest.

Great place to visit on Mo'orea! We enjoyed walking around and learning about the history of the site, as well as the traditions observed both past and present. We also enjoyed seeing the different plants and wildlife in the area. Beautiful place!
Very green place with an information table. Easy to come there.
Without a guide, it is not so interesting as the signs are not all in English and are not easily understandable for somebody who does not know the culture.
It's a historical spot, though it's not developed.

Ein Marae ist in Polynesien eine Art abgegrenzter, heiliger Ort für zeremonielle Zwecke. Meistens besteht er aus einer steinernen Plattform. Der Marae Ti'i-rua befindet sich zwischen dem Aussichtspunkt Belvedere und der Inselhauptstraße etwas abseits. Man kommt direkt daran vorbei. Entlang eines kleinen Rundgangs im Dschungel findet man Überreste der Tempelanlage. Es gibt Schautafeln mit Erklärungen zu Bau, Funktion und Lebensweise der Menschen, die hier im 15. und 16. Jahrhundert lebten. Interessant für jeden, der sich ein wenig mit der polynesischen Kultur beschäftigt.
