Agencies public and private continue to search for a way to end teen pregnancy. Abstinence has been the chosen option for most religious groups. Abstinence is one of the extremes that is an example of delayed tragedy. Abstinence does not prevent teen pregnancy it only delays it. Teens that believe in abstinence most often do not use protection because they believe that having protection implies intent to have sex. This lack of protection catches teens unprepared and this results in more pregnancies and the spread od sexually transmitted diseases. Abstinence implies to most teens that sexual intercourse is a taboo however other forms of sexual activity are admissible. When engaging in these other activity’s they mostly often do not use protection. This idea of abstinence also provokes new and often dangerous ways to receive pleasurable responses in ones body. Many parents do not wish to discuss safe sex practices with their children for a variety of reasons. Many parents believe that if they inform their children about sex then they are likely to try it. They believe that it also gives the children permission to engage in sexual relations. Leaving children unprepared for actions that will occur in life only inhibits their ability to enjoy pleasure, be courteous to their lovers, and sets them up for negative consequences of safe sex.
