The First Nations Peace Monument is the 2017 addition to the DeCew House Heritage Park. It is very close to the riverlet that connects Lake Moodie and Lake Gibson. It commemorates interactions by the First Peoples with non-native people and their contributions to the War of 1812 and the creation of Canada. The monument is located on the property where Laura Secord delivered her warning message to British Lieutenant James FitzGibbon's at DeCew House which was his headquarters. Mohawk warriors escorted her part of the way there. The monument had two high, curved limestone sections with seating around a glowing orb that represents the sun. There is a pathway through the middle. One can interpret the symbolism there in several different ways. We found the aesthetics of the monument’s design very interesting. We rate First Nations Peace Monument at 4.50. If you found this review helpful, please click THANK below.
