After spending a good amount of time researching Spray Foam insulation, which is widely used in the Northern Hemisphere for dealing with cold climates, I felt that it would be the best product to be applied in our warmer climate in NSW. Searching for an applicator proved more challenging as it isn't a widely used product, so I called the Icynene company directly and asked for their highest volume and purchaser and their recommendation. There was no hesitation in the response, "speak to Tom Cookson". I called Tom and he walked me through the process and spent some time explaining the way to go about it in our home construction. Once I was approaching the time to start insulating I called Tom and arranged for an inspection and a game plan as I wanted to insulate my first floor as there was no cavity in the ceiling, we were having Cathedral style ceilings so Batts wouldn't have been as effective. Additionally, I need to insulate my sub floor which had hydronic heating in the suspended concrete slab. This posed an added challenge as we used Bondek, a permanent zinc alume form, which Tom was concerned may be too cold for the foam to adhere too. Finally I wanted to insulate the ground floor ceiling to minimise acoustic noise from the first floor to the ground floor. Tom and his motley cree formulated a game plan and we set a date. The team was very professional, on time, accommodated my fastidious requests with a smile and left the job neat and tidy or as such as is possible with an airborne foam product. In the end the temperature difference and thermal improvement was noticeable immediately. The remaining areas were sprayed over the course of a few weeks as there were some equipment breakdowns, but Tom kept me informed throughout and we managed to work with him to complete the job. I couldn't recommend the method more and Tom and his team are the best in the business in NSW. Greatly appreciate all your help, Thank you, Stel.
