The Indisch Monument is a memorial that stands in tribute to the memory of all Dutch citizens and soldiers killed during World War II as a result of the Japanese occupation of what is now Indonesia. The monument is a sculptural ensemble of 17 sculptures depicting individuals in a mixture of grief over fallen soldiers, despair, fear and defiance. Shamefully, it had taken Netherlands until 1961, 46 years after the end of World War Two to erect a national monument to its war victims in the former Dutch East Indies. Not a must-see, but worth a detour if visiting the Scheveningen Woods where this monument is located.
Nice monument in a beautiful park. A place where the ashes of many also found their last reating place. A nice tradition has evolved at this monument, as many people bring flowers from funerals here, so that there's always a field of fresh flowers as part of the monument.
Nice spot to sit down and look at the woter
This is one of my favorite site in Den Haag. This monument are made for the victims who died in Dutch East Indies in the Second World War when Japan invaded the present day Indonesia. But the interesting one, they dont count or stated the victims who died during the colonial time. Politic!
Nothing special about this place....
