My Great Uncle Until he passed away today, had been a resident for about 2 1/2 years. from day 1 he was well looked after, always impressed with how the staff dealt with him through some difficult times too, Im sure he will be missed there as he will be at home

My mother has only been in this care home for a short time, but appears to be well cared for by staff. However, I have noted that she does have to wait for assistance on a regular basis, (unable to do anything for herself) possibly due to staff shortages, this doesn't surprise me because of the low wages and high turnover of staff!!. I took my mother's telephone to the home for her, as it states on the website that there is a phone point in every room?. This is untrue and has upset my mum (and me), as it is the only contact with some family members, including myself, who live some distance away, she was used to talking every day to family. I tend not to ring the homes phone to often as when I do, the staff sometimes appear angry, I am told they are busy or mum is not available and to ring back, when I do I am usually disturbing her mealtimes!! I work in care myself and understand the importance of regular contact with families and the difficulties they face. Losing their independence is bad enough and it is very important that they are not made to feel isolated and alone, which at times my mother has told me she does. I believe this needs to be looked into and reviewed.

My grandmother's care seemed very good, even though she was suffering dementia. She was aggressive to staff, but she claimed to me they mistreated her, which I didn't believe. However, the night she passed away, I noted her rings had been removed from her very stiff, cloven arthritic fingers, which must have caused her pain and distress. They claimed never to have noticed them, even though her hands needed dressing and were very prominant in her care. They closed rank and never investigated the theft, claimed anyone, including myself, could have taken them. Disgusted. Note: make sure no valuable items should be left there as there is a thief and chance of cover-up from the top down. Something very corrupt going on there. Thiis is not an attack on the majority of pleasant staff there, but no one bothered to take this seriously at all and therefore I condemn Wilmington Manor as a place NO ONE should put their loved one until this matter of theft has been recognised and highlighted.
