Chandannagar was a french colony and so you get to see many old buildings with french influences. This college is all painted in deep yellow and has some shades of green. Its an eye catching structure and definitely attracts the tourists.

I am a English literature student of this college. I got admission in the year 2017. The discipline and also the teaching is commendable in this college. The beautiful and peaceful environment is also an inseparable part of this educational hub. I would say, the teaching, the adminstrative system, and the dedication of the teachers of this college to teaching is something that other colleges and institutions could follow without any question.

It is the oldest college of the district having glorious past. Initially it was St. Mary's Institution founded in 1862 by the French Catholic Missionary, Rev. Magloire Barthet. The institution was renamed as Dupleix College in 1901, in memory of Governor General Joseph François Dupleix. At the time of Indian independence movement, This college became a centre of revolutionary activities. Professor Charuchandra Ray was the mentor of Bengali revolutionaries. The college received official recognition by the French government and was brought under the French Education Directorate only in June 1938. In 1947 the college was again renamed as Chandernagore College. Presently it became affiliated to the University of Burdwan.
