This place is unique. It's unlike any other monument: it's a canyon with a little farm at the bottom. Lots of lookouts and places to take pics.

Canyon de Chelly National Monument is a vast park in northeastern Arizona, on Navajo tribal lands. Its prominent features include Spider Rock spire, about 800-feet tall, and towering sandstone cliffs surrounding a verdant canyon. Inhabited by several Native American peoples for millennia, the area is dotted with prehistoric rock art. The White House Ruins and Mummy Cave are remains of ancient Pueblo villages.

Spent some time with the locals. Q Medicine man son near the The junction overlook. Got great videos. Went to the white house tour and q few others with my Navajo friends. Great place to visit a lot of history and stuff to see they called me Grandpa Rich they painted or I helped them paint flat rocks with different. Petroglyphs and seems in the canyon like some of the Anasazi ruins you can Camp in the one camp ground for free for 10days I think. Really learned a lot enjoyed my visit.

The name Chelly (or Chelley) is a Spanish borrowing of the Navajo word Tséyiʼ, which means "canyon" (literally "inside the rock" \u003c tsé "rock" -yiʼ "inside of, within"). The Navajo pronunciation is [tséɣiʔ]. The Spanish pronunciation of de Chelly [deˈtʃeʎi] was adapted into English, apparently through modelling[clarification needed] after a French-like spelling pronunciation, and now /dəˈʃeɪ/ də-SHAY.

Pretty views from overlooks on the rim of the canyon below. Interesting rock formations.

One of the most beautiful canyons I've ever seen, truly magical. If you're lucky you just may see wild horses.

Absolutely gorgeous! It's a bit out of the way but it's worth every mile of your drive. The hike down to White House Ruins is just beautiful. I've been to Canton de Chelly a few times and it amazes me every time I see it. One day I'll take a horseback ride in the canyon. Highly recommended.

This is a wonderous place to watch the sunrise especially after a summer rain. Spider Rock Overlook is the place to do this. Do yourself the favor and plan this trip.
