I had great expectations about this restaurant. It was the cuisine of Chiang Kai-shek, in the end.. But instead: what a disappointment! The food has no spark at all: it is boring, too sweet, too starchy, my mouth got so asleep that I wasn't able to eat any more. The special duck, so famous in the descriptions, had almost no flavor: the rice inside, bland, the skin with no flavor or texture. The pork ribs might have been good.. Might. Because they were covered by a thick jam, which again, numbed my mouth.
So, was it really tradition of 30 years and more ago, or this is a Chef who cannot renew himself??!! Because such meal, in the end, was a total killer never to be repeated: too sweet, too starchy, too numb, without any contrast, without particular textures that can intrigue the palate, without zing, without freshness, heavy, old fashioned in the wrong way, and fundamentally very tiring. The complementary plum juice, sweet that too, add sweetness to sugar and to starch, and does not enlighten the whole experience. A lemon sorbet, very sour, would have revived the senses and saved the day. But no... we didn't get that. Even an espresso coffee would have worked. But, again, no.
So, in conclusion, do yourself a favor, and skip this restaurant: you won't miss any tradition or good food, because that tradition is wrong.
