I haven't stayed in the adjacent hotel but I do go to the onsen that is open to the public and is low priced. The onsen is small with only one bath per sex and not a lot of facilities but it is an enjoyable place to go and can be very relaxing as it looks over the river. The water smells a little of sulphur but this is not intrusive and also because it has a high mineral content (see photo) your skin feels nicely slippery after using the bath. I have only given it three stars because it is a very simple place but it is perfectly adequate. Also a pretty drive to reach it and the surrounding countryside is dramatic.

Nice and small Onsen with healthy (and slippery) water. Tickets from vending machine.

It is a hot spring of famous hot spring that can be put in a secluded and quiet place.

We stayed at this great Japanese hotel, with Japanese style rooms and extremely helpful staff (who don't speak English but make themselves understood via a translating app). the building is rather dated but the other positive aspects more than make up for it. Great scenic location, really good onsen and excellent value for money. Highly recommended

After a whole day exploring the Iya Valley, I really enjoyed my one night stay at the inn next to the onsen! You can get dinner at the small cafeteria (it does close early at 6:30 PM, however!), as well as a classic Japanese breakfast in the morning, and at the same time enjoy the bath freely. The staff was super friendly but English is definitely not the norm here, so better brush up your Japanese!
