A ride to the top of the Yatsugatake mountains The Kita-Yatsugatake Ropeway takes you up the Yatsugatake Mountains to Tsubo-niwa Nature Park, going from 1771m to 2237m elevation in about 7min. The ropeway runs every 20min and each gondola can transport 100 people. Once at the top, you will be rewarded with a breathtaking view of the three ranges of the Japanese Alps and Kurumayama Kirigamine Plateau. From the summit station you can explore Tsubo-Niwa park or trek to the peaks of nearby Mt. Shimagare-yama and Mt. Kita-Yokodake. Many hiking trails wind through Tsubo-niwa Park, an enchanting natural garden of igneous rocks and windswept pines originated from a volcanic eruption. One circuit of the park takes about 40min. From the park you can observe an intriguing natural phenomenon called Shimagare, which can be roughly translated as “stripes of dead trees”. The mountainside in this area shows an unusual pattern, an alternation of ebony stripes of withered trees and green stripes of saplings. The order of these stripes changes over the years, as old trees die and new trees are born in their place in an endless cycle of regeneration. The ropeway can be enjoyed year-round. In spring, admire the new greenery making its way out of the melting last snow. From June to September, marvel at the vivid colors of Alpine flowers. From late September to mid-October, enjoy the warm autumn colors. From late December to March, hike through frozen trees the snow-covered mountain or ski/snowboard down the 4-kilometer course.

ロープウェイ乗車時間 約7分（20分ごとに運行） 大人 往復2100円（片道1200円） 子ども 往復1050円（片道600円） 坪庭散策含めて 約60〜80分 ロープウェイで行く坪庭は標高2237mで絶景です。 （天気に左右されますが） 自分が行った時は快晴でしたが秋の強風で次の便が中止になってしまいましたので風のある日も見合わせる可能性があるという認識でいたほうがいいです。 坪庭散策は周回コースがありまして30分も歩けば終わってしまいますが素晴らしい景色にちょっと外国に来たようなそんな錯覚をしてしまいました。とにかくよかったです。散策は観光の装いでいいと思いますがサンダルとかヒールはお勧めしません（緩やかでも山道なので） あと秋に行ったので風も吹いてて寒いので防寒対策はした方がいいと思います。 あとオレンジ割引マップという観光冊子に割引券（大人-200円子ども-100円）ついてますので道中でゲットしてからいくのがおすすめです。自分はおぎのや諏訪店でげっとしました。 （2020/11/21）
2020年11月３日訪問。 山頂は霧がかかっていたが、霧の合間にみえる景色は幻想的。 山頂の坪庭も、靄の中でさらに幻想的でした。 快晴の日とは違った景色でしょうが、それはそれで不思議な景観でした。 １時間に3本ロープウェー運航していました。 00分発 20分発 40分発 20分おきでした。 ロープウェー代2100円 JAF割引で1900円です。 JAF割引は私が見た限りでは窓口には明記されてないようでしたので、券売窓口の係員に尋ねて、割引してもらいました。
11/１に行きました。意外な穴場的存在のロープウェイです。観光客が多かったから、時刻表に関係なく１０分間隔で運行されて段取りの良さをかんじます。また展望台は見晴らしも良く、散策するコースも沢山有ります。蓼科に来られるときにはお勧めできる所です。
連休で訪れたら凄い混み合ってました。 無料駐車場は嬉しいですね。 朝9:00のロープウェイでしたがここから混み合いますね。
登った先に3040分かかる散策路があることをロープウェイを昇ってから知りました。時間もないし足こしらえをしてなかったので諦めました。残念！天気もよく、紅葉も見頃だったのに惜しいことをしました。
スーツやハイヒールで来ている人がいて場違い過ぎて肩身が狭そうでした笑 ロープウェイを待っている間、大勢で固まって待つのでソーシャルディスタンスは関係ないようですし、大きな声でお喋りを賑やかにしている年寄り連中がいて係りに特に注意もされず、とても嫌でした。 しかし、景色は素晴らしいです。
8月なのに上は14度とかなり寒いです 私が行った日は霧と風があり真夏の軽装やサンダル等では思っている以上に過酷です 運動靴と長袖では必需品。 眺めはかなり良く装備さえキチンとしてればちょっとしたトレッキング気分を味わえます 冷えた身体のキノコ汁はかなり美味しいです
