Definitely work seeing a ballet here. Make sure to have a drink on the balcony before leaving.
I've yet to see an Opera here (tickets are pricey) but I've been to several wonderful children's concerts and shows, as well as an excellent brunchconcert here. The building itself is beautiful and part of Zurich's landscape, and the setting by the lake is delightful. If you can afford tickets, definitely worth including a trip while in town. My daughter loved the storytelling version the Nutcracker they put on, so we'll be back for more children's performances for sure.
Grand establishment! Ticket desk is separate from the main building (to its right) and has separate lines for pickup of tickets and last minute tickets. Checkroom is in the basement of the main building. In our case this was free (and mandatory!) The seating area opens approx 20min before start. During the intermission there is a chance to get some drinks but the various small strands only accept cash (hopefully this will be upgraded soon!).
Wonderful Christmas village in front of the Opera house. Designers from all over Switzerland sell their unique products in cute huts. Also lots of food vendors, plenty of hot cold beverages & even a really adorable ice skating rink. Bring cash as not everyone takes cards.
This is more for the Christmas Market outside the opera house than the opera house itself. Nicely decorated and lots of stalls selling a wide variety of things. From bags to fudge. There's also an ice rink for the little ones. Prices are not cheap and at times perplexed why some of this stuff. Is on sale here. The atmosphere is pleasant but not a lot of space to walk around.
