If there's one thing the Gelderland province doesn't lack are good museums, and this one is not an exception. In fact they just recently merged three museums into one and are now providing a free audio guide in Dutch, English and German. The whole flow of the place is good where you start in the basement and get down and dirty with the ice age remains, together with stone age, bronze age and the viking invasion which was pretty brutal. Moving to the upper floor the flow breaks and in fact we found ourselves in an extremely exciting room with a video taking the visitor through the different paintings in the room accross Zutphen's history. This room lights one painting at the time, in an synchronised play together with the video. Brilliant idea, but not very practical for such small room. Room should be bigger, and narration should be present in the video. The rest of the artifacts from the museum dedicated to Zutphen's history are indeed magnificent and even the red circular furtinure designed to showcase all these objects is a piece of art in itself. Moving on to the upper floor the permanent exhibition on Henriette Polak is a must, together with the adjacent collection which it was not clear if it was permanent collection or not. One thing is for sure, we found ourselves overwhelmed with some many great pieces that we did not had enough time for them all. So when we found the "email yourself your own part of the exhibit" screens it was really nice. Impressive part. We had no time for the temporary exhibit downstairs and went straight to the Museum Café, since according to the lady at the reception, we had some sort of discount there. The place is gorgeous, but it was closing so we just had time for a quick tea. Apparently the discount was on the salmon sandwich, which we weren't very fond of.

Great overview of Zuthpen's history. We didn't have specific expectations, but liked it!
A collection but no connection.
Cute museum
Great museum.
Die heet Picture this!
