There was some Norwegian looking fellow standing on a footbridge killing a bunch of englishmen while all his buddies were in the background forming some sort of wall using what looked like shields. Rather interesting. 10/10 would attend in company of my knightly retinue again.

For those with any interest in history whatsoever Stamford Bridge is a must. Not much to see, but that's not the point is it. Most of the battleground has been built on in the intervening 950 years, but you can still get an impression of what happened tactically. It is worth walking through the village to the viewing area at the end of Whiterose Drive, not for the view necessarily although it is broad, but you get an impression of the high ground occupied by Hardrada's army.

I was so keen to get here that I 'm pleased I did. Firstly, we parked in free carpark by river derwent near where the actual bridge would have been...pretty with good walk options and an info sign....but no more. Then followed google maps to site if battle and found a stone with plaque - deserves so much more!!! So weird that there was no signage and it was literally on edge of a housing estate
