Called quite late in the evening and managed to get booked in for a table for two. The pub is dog friendly and the staff were very welcoming. We both ordered a curry and the food portion size was great with a decent main and side portions to go with it.

We had a lovely pub meal here, steak and ale and chicken and mushroom pies...great quality, nice and hot and served to us in about 10 minutes when we visited at 5pm. Very reasonably priced and a cosy pub to enjoy a meal in. Highly recommended if you're in the local area.
Ayton is an ancestral seat for me, well, several generations of the clan hail from these parts and the Forge was a well used haunt. However, it's been a couple of years since last I was there and I'm happy to report they keep a fine pint of Timothy Taylor's Landlord which on a fine summer evening is best quaffed in their well kept beer garden. I'm assured the Forge also does a very good takeaway pizza.
Food was great so were the staff, would have preferred to be sat in bar rather than bright lit games room, still enjoyed it
Was lovely atmosphere, made my 2 doggies & I feel very welcome.
