Nice place with a cozy atmosphere, greatly positioned and with a village's atmosphere. A good display of good quality cheeses occasionally together with the beers being of a wide variety of selection. Surely would return especially on a weekend.

I cycled here along the River Colne path from Colchester. We sat outside, at a table, on a waterside terrace, watching geese and cormorants in the river. The tide was high, the river and sky blue, both of us enjoyed a very fine pint of porter in the afternoon sun. Simon served us very promptly and beer prices were competitive. I didn't set foot inside the pub building, so will need to come back again, in order to discover more.

Wife and I were in the area as we are looking to move near this location. As the old saying goes \if you want to know anything; ask the locals\. Simon (the landlord) couldn't have been more helpful; answering all our inquiries and taking the time to introduce us to residents who were more than willing to slate our curiosity. The reception we received was friendly and welcoming. We look forward to making this our local if the move goes through (fingers crossed). By the way; the beer was good as well!! Sitting by the river, talking about everything and nothing while enjoying a good pint; what more could you ask. Thanks to everyone involved.
