It was literally excellent!!!! Especially the first of the entry was so amazing. I love it but I forgot what was the name... Also, the other dish was so so ... of course, it is very unique and high quality. We ordered the food recommended by the chef. But some dish was not my style.. If there’s any chance, I want to try other dish:)

This is how the conversation went between myself and the male host that took place at Detour tonight at 6pm on Friday 16 April 2021. Me: Hello, I have a reservation at 6.30pm. I’d like to organise a little surprise for my friend’s birthday. Would it be possible to have her dessert brought out with a sparkler? (Provides sparklers) Host: No. Sparklers would set off fire alarms. Me: That’s too bad, would a candle be okay? Host: No. We can’t do that. Me: Is there a reason why? Host: Because of Covid. Me: Ah, okay. Would it be possible to write ‘happy birthday’ on the plate instead to surprise my friend perhaps? Host: NO. Our chefs aren’t talented enough to do that, maybe you should go to a restaurant with better chefs”. Me: .... Hey DETOUR, your food was great. The chef was great. The other female hostess was great. The other male waiter who served us was also great. The male host...not so great. He unfortunately carried a very poor demeanour and was utterly unhelpful.

This is my second visit to Detour and they didn't disappoint. We had all vegan dishes and the choice is so good that we shared 5 dishes between 3 people ... couldn't fit desert. Delicious!

A wonderful, creative restaurant. My absolute favourite. Planning to taste all the dishes. Loving the Salmon and ants dish. Heavenly. Highly recommended.

We should have read the sign and detoured around Detour. Detour lost our order once and mangled it the second time, meaning we waited 3 hours for 7 dishes between 5 people. That by itself isn't terrible and it was easy to forgive our waiter who was dealing with stressful conditions, but was still very apologetic, friendly and otherwise attentive. What was terrible was how management dealt with it. They appeared to be more concerned with saving face than alleviating the issue. When they took our order the second time, an hour after they took our original, it would have been nice if they offered complimentary drinks to tide us over while we waited (again). When we went to pay they gave us the full bill unapologetically. When we politely asked if they could comp the drinks they seemingly acted ignorant to our evening's plight, even though this was the same manager who took our order the second time, and other staff members already confirmed the last two orders were lost and mangled. It's possible it was just a hectic night for them, but after two mistakes you think they'd pay a bit more attention to their customers. After that awkward confrontation they comped 2 of the 7 drinks we had that night. I really hope Detour can learn from this and place the blame where it's deserved, not with the honest and apologetic waiter, but with the non-apologetic management. On a happier note, we shared a combination of carnivore and herbivore dishes which were all scrumptious, with the herbivore dishes (Charcoal Broccoli, Pineapple Curry) standing out as the more interesting and tasty choices.

First meal out of lockdown and this was a delicious way to celebrate my wife's birthday. Simple cuts but done spectacularly. Gunpowdered Waygu Beef Brisket was delicious and the burnt broccoli was the tastiest I've ever had. Finished off with the nitro meringue. Very good value dining.

ONE STAR for the following reasons: Went there to celebrate my friend’s birthday. We had the 75 set menu on sharing plates with one person having vegetarian and gluten free option. Food is nice but SERVICE IS HORRIBLE. 1. Little information on the set menu is available online when this is compulsory for booking larger than 7 people, which made it inconvenient as you have to enquire directly with the restaurant beforehand. 2. Booking was at 8.30pm, when we arrived the table wasn’t ready and they simply told us that the table before us has not finished yet and we had to stand/sit at the bar until 8.50pm. Query whether this is unfair treatment? 3. The restaurant did not facilitate the fact that this is a birthday of a friend despite prior notification. It did not allow cake from outside to be eaten in the restaurant for food licensing reason. They also said that we cannot blow the candles or share the cake for COVID safety reasons. Query how it is OK for the whole table to share food from the restaurant but not for the birthday girl to blow her cake? It would have been nice if we were notified of these issues earlier especially when I have specified that the dinner was for a birthday celebration. 4. When the appetizer arrived, they did not specify as to which of them was gluten free as we have requested. So we had to ask the waiter again which one was the gluten free dish. Query whether the restaurant cares about food intolerances? 5. One of the waiters also dropped a fork on my friend’s arm. And yet instead of redeeming themselves, continued to provide below-average and even fringing upon bad service for a restaurant of this stature. Overall not impressed and would not recommend beyond trying out the food.

The food was incredible but the service was terrible and negatively impacted the overall dining experience. We booked over 3 months in advance for an end of year celebration and were notified on arrival that we would be seated on the outside picnic tables despite the restaurant being half empty. No mention of outside seating was made at the time of booking which is a pretty important detail for a lunch in the middle of summer. The maitre d was rude and obnoxious. She constantly argued with us about how many dishes we ordered and in what order. One of our dishes wasn't brought to the table and we received 2 different stories about it. We were ignored sitting outside and had to work to summon the attention of the wait staff while all of the tables inside received timely service. I would suggest that if the restaurant can't reliably service the outside tables then don't offer them as an option. We provided this feedback directly to the restaurant a few months ago but have received no reply. It is a shame that a restaurant with such culinary genius is let down by poor service. I would not recommend this restaurant on this basis.
