I arrived at a busy time but the social distancing arrangements were very clearly signed so I was able to find the right place to queue at every stage. The benefit was clear. The batter on the fish was lovely and crispy. I went here on a friend's recommendation. I recommend it to you!

Purchased fish and chips from Wetherby Whaler York. Very disappointed the fish was more batter than fish and the chips were all dog ends and bits ... all in all a disappointing meal. Additionally contacted them through social media and received no reply, so clearly they don’t seem bothered.
For, the forth time in succession, from wetherby whaler, I have ordered double scampi. In fact I always order this. So far it has arrived burnt! Each time have rung to ask 'please don't burn the scampi' I might have well not bothered! I have now been informed by Chris from wetherby whaler that the scampi is brought in frozen?????? Really??? This is fish! A very susceptible food stuff that, like other frozen food can kill!!!! Will NOT be visiting here again, I actually value my life! Bearing in mind the climate we are in, and have no idea when we will be coming out of all of this. Surely we should expect freshly cooked, good decent food! Or am I asking too much???
Top quality fish and chips. Well worth calling in if you are in the area.
The restaurant is excellent and well worth a visit, the staff could not be faulted and was excellent with friendly and polite service. The haddock was very good and tasty, just as it used to be, I am glad I went for the large as the whaler would have been to much for me to eat. Everything was perfect and will be going again. The restaurant was clean and comfortable, the seating was nicely spaced out. The toilets were clean and tidy. It was quite busy when we visited and were pleased to get seated immediately, I cannot fault this place and we are looking forward to going again when we will have a desert. Thank-you very much for a great meal.
