Had an absolutely brilliant day out! I hadn't been to this site before so wasn't 100% sure where we were to go to register our arrival. There is a Pay and Display car park available (this was further down from the campsite). 1 for 1 hour, 2 for 2 hours, 3 for 3 hours and then I think it was 6 for all day parking. Once we found the Canoe Hire base (on the left-hand side - the road forks off as you enter) the staff were friendly and social distancing was well managed, alongside sanitised equipment. The toilets were to be desired at the base (1 toilet for men and women to use - 1 toilet had no toilet paper in and looked dirty, the other the door didn't close properly. Not ideal if you're there on your own!!) Once we had registered, we were given our life jackets, the rundown on how to canoe and given a laminated map showing where the turning points were along the river. Once on the water, it was incredibly peaceful and all users were mindful of each other. You could see the birds settled alongside the river, fishermen were out too and further on down the river we saw some tiny fish! We hadn't been made aware of the boat tours that also operated there (maybe I was giddy from excitement and hadn't noticed them on our way up the river) but we knew about them on our way back!! I would highly recommend to anyone that wants to try it out and destress for a few hours.

️ If the water reaches a certain height, they will tie two boats together, if you booked two boats. This is for safety️ Great visit. The staff were really friendly and helpful. One of the staff members gives you a detailed overview of the trip and tells you all of the health and safety aspects in depth, which other companies didn’t do. You go to the launch site, then one member of your party goes by car to the end site. The company then takes them back by minibus to the launch site. The car park is very steep, 6 all day. The car park is not owned by the company, but a camp site. Very nice trip, lots of nice scenery. It is self-guided, but you are given a map. Would definitely recommend. Dogs are allowed in the canoe if well behaved.

Before leaving we went to get a parking ticket but the ticket machine right next to Ross on Wye Canoe Hire had a big sign “out of order” so my wife walked across the relatively large field to go to the next ticket machine but this machine would not accept the pound coins we had, she tried multiple times! then the guide from Ross on Wye Canoe Hire asked if we can hurry up as they had to drop us back to the drop off point, all this time I might add our kids are waiting by themselves at the drop off point so we had to go. We had a lovely day and everybody wanted to return for another trip a.s.a.p but we came back to a parking ticket which was very annoying especially as we tried getting one but it wasn’t even possible, it feels like who ever issued the ticket should of know it wasn’t possible so why would anyone issue a ticket. I certainly won't be going here ever again, the ticket machine fiasco seems likes it could be some type of scam, i appealed and they didn't acknowledge any of the issues, will be taking it further with the Ombudsman Services
