My little boy has dyslexia and often visits for treatment. The staff are great and we'll trained. They are very professional and friendly as well as great with children. They have certainly helped my little boy.

Trustworthy and competent. Our family has used Wades in Durham for a number of years and trust this company. They invest in the latest technology and keep abreast of scientific developments. Examples: they were one of the first in the UK to use Ortho-K lenses which work so well, and is still being used (4 years later?) by one of our children and I think they were the first UK opticians to use 85% retinal scanning. The staff are friendly, have a great attitude, are very helpful and knowledgeable. I use a common high street brand opticians which is OK for me based on price, but despite claiming to have the latest technology, their equipment is not, in my opinion, as good and as leading edge as that found in specialist opticians like Wades. Wade’s general ambition appears is be to get a person’s eye-sight corrected if possible, i.e. a child/young adult, so they should not need glasses or contact lenses in the longer term, which is, in my opinion, different to some other ‘eye care’ companies. Hopefully by their mid-twenties, our children will not need glasses… that’s their and our intention. We also used Wades for Vision Therapy which transformed both our children’s eye sight which then significantly helped with their reading, writing and coordination; football and cricket became good fun because they were no longer ‘cack handed’, and confidence ballooned. We were mighty concerned at the beginning of the vision-therapy course as floor exercises seemed remote from eye-sight but we stuck with the tailored programme and regular reviews so see fantastic transformations. Some of these exercises are similar to those done by optometrists in the 1930’s and 1940’s as my parents recall; it would be great for children, labelled as ‘dyslexic symptoms’ to be assessed for this treatment. Summary: Highly recommended based on our experience.

Unfortunately they are not able to provide easily glass prescription lenses. They basically only deal with plastic ones.

There are very kind people working there. If you have small problems with your glasses they fix it at the moment and they do a great work.
