My son was at mælkebøtten from 11 months till 2 years 9 months. I’m married to a Dane and was worried my Danish wasn’t good enough but they were so understanding and made sure I got the information I needed. But most importantly they helped shape my baby into a wonderful toddler. It’s been 1.5 years since he left for a børnehave and he still keeps asking when can he go back to the “good kindergarten”. The pedagogues, vikars, medhjælpers were so dedicated and loved the children, it is now even more evident when I see the contrast at his børnehave. There the teachers are lazy most don’t even seem to like children, maybe they are just over worked and exhausted but it has had a real negative effect on the children. My son learnt more and had more activities at this vugguestue then he does at his børnehave now. At mælkbøtten they had a great concept of having a joint meeting with the kids at 9 to explain what their plan for the day was and chat and then they started the activities or play. They worked with music and motion and also as my son grew up knowing how to help and work to support the younger children. He absolutely loved it - every book with a teacher character is “Connie” and remains to this day, who was one of his main pedagogues in his second year. But all the staff Hye Me, Emil, Linda, Stone and Zainab made him a caring and loving toddler and I’m ever so grateful for their love, time and compassion. If we bump into them in our everyday life years after he has left (and I would think he won’t remember them) he is thrilled and hugs them and they him. It really fills my heart with joy that despite the pressures and stress they are under they somehow manage to create a wonderful environment for the children to grow up and learn life in.
