Garde East in Vineyard Haven was an oasis on a misty, overcast but lovely summer day in the vineyard. I did a quick search hoping to find a nice place for lunch in the midst of the Covid craziness. Garde East’s mediterranean tasting menu held the most promise and it did not disappoint. It’s a large, charming establishment right on the water with multiple open air but covered balconies and fantastic views. We sampled a number of absolutely delightful family shareables. The locally sourced cheese plate was yummy and the family salad was so fab that we also ordered a second! Great drink and wine selection. They weren’t super busy for lunch, so my nieces and I appreciated Patrick and Tyler’s extra attention and service. So glad we tried this “new favorite” spot! Great for lunch, dinner, families, friends and very special occasions.

This past weekend my friends and I truly had one of the most memorable meals that I've had in a long long time. Our four-person group had so much fun sitting outside by our docked boat, watching the boats in the harbor, and unpacking Michelin Star worthy food all in a pleasant picnic setting. I mean let's get real, no one has or will offer all three things at once except Garde East! To sum up the three things that makes Garde East the best restaurant on the Vineyard: 1. Can I say 100 star food?!? Beyond superior...it's mouth watering! 2. Diligent and capable managers and staff, always catering to the customer! 3. Presentation, delivery, and execution...all beyond expectations! While the world has been on lockdown and social distancing has shut down my favorite restaurants, Garde East has proven to be the shining star of impeccable service and well prepared by adapting to the current world we live in. I commend their ability to provide a safe and clean place to dine, and I will certainly be a repeat customer throughout the summer!!

Exceptional dining right on the water. The service and food is phenomenal with a great wine and drink selection. Highly recommended and make your reservations and enjoy dinner listening to the waves and an awesome selection of background music.

After all the hype, the visit was beyond a letdown. Besides touting itself as serving 'family style', the food items are not prepared in this way! The portions should be cut beforehand so they can be easily shared. For one, the fish had many bones. This should have been filleted. Chicken was underdone, steak was fatty (and, at 90, expensive). Local oysters were nice though. Kicker was requesting salt and pepper and getting communal bowls off another table, finger impressions still visible! Heard of Covid people? No, no, no.

As we came to MV on a last minute trip, by the time I started meal planning, all of the good restaurants were fully booked for dinner. We lucked into a late lunch (2:30 PM) reservation before a boat trip around the Vineyard out of the adjacent Black Dog Wharf. Initially we had the restaurant entirely to ourselves, and then a party of five came to an adjacent table. The service was impeccable - friendly, knowledgeable, attentive and timely. Unperturbed by us playing cards as a family (always a good sign). Great cocktails and a really good wine list. The menu was simple but no bad choices. We had some local oysters (fantastic), a charcuterie platter (great pickled onions), a couple of serves of fries (couldn’t make better), half a chicken Korean BBQ style, some deviled eggs and then raspberry sorbet and key lime pie. Just a really nice start to the afternoon and would go back any time.

This is a wonderful Marina of sorts. It is run by a very talented woman name Liz. You'll see boats anywhere from 30,000 to 1,000.000.. they offer a lounge, a beach, bathrooms, showers it's wonderful...
