Magnificent war memorial to the men of the Haute-Garonne department lost during the Great War. This impressive monument is in an imposing position in between the Allées Forain-François Verdier and the Boulevard Lazare Carnot. It can be accessed directly from the François Verdier metro station.

I confess that after looking closely at the turbulent mural of faces, hats, helmets, hands, arms, I found the woman - the mother, the wife, the sister, the daughter - who has fainted from joy, relief, jubilation, and is being borne onward by the surge of homecoming soldiers and welcoming citizens, and I wept.

La decisión de construir el monumento se tomó en 1919 y se abrió un concurso a finales de 1920. De alrededor de cuarenta presentaciones, el jurado seleccionó el proyecto de Camille Raynaud, por delante de los de Henri-Raphaël Moncassin y André Abbal; la ciudad de Toulouse, sin embargo, decide asociar a los tres autores en la realización final, bajo la supervisión del arquitecto Léon Jaussely. La obra no se terminó hasta 1928, y los bajorrelieves de Raynaud no se terminaron definitivamente hasta 1931. El costo del monumento ascendió a 1.349.540 francos.
