(Visited March 2016) If traveling and visiting on a Saturday, then you're in for a treat!! Not sure if they still do it since the pandemic but on Saturday mornings there is a flee market from locals that line the sidewalks surrounding this beautiful Church. It was very interesting to see the local history through the local's offerings and we did buy a small little trinket that we still have on the shelf. The architecture is absolutely beautiful, even though it being dated and it shows it's still remarkable how such things were designed and built in such times and places. Church had corridors as you enter to give the feeling of almost a mid-evil setting, dark and dingy as you enter the church hall. Then breathtaking hall!!! A must see if in the area and especially on a Saturday for the market!

The Basilica of Saint-Sernin is a church in Toulouse, France. Belonging to the Roman world, which contained the body of Saint Saturnin or Sernin, the first bishop of Toulouse in c. 250. Must visit place if you travel to Toulouse Constructed in the Romanesque style between about 1080 and 1120. On November 29, the Christian community of Toulouse celebrates the Feast of Saint Saturnin, the occasion for a whole veneration of relics. That day, from 9 a.m., the people of Toulouse flock to Mass at the Tomb, around the tomb of the Holy Martyr. At the end of the mass, you can visit this place.

Gorgeous basilica with many gothic touches. It is enormous and bursting with relics (made me recall the descriptions of holy relics in Mark Twain's The Innocents Abroad - there were certainly thorns, holy wood, arm bones and more). Some altars have a collection of relics that go well together. As an amateur at religious history, I also noticed some interesting gnostic themes, for example on the dome of the basilica there appears to be representations of the tetramorph (apostles shown as lion, bull, eagle, anglel) with archangles and a distinctly gnostic look. Certainly I could be wrong. You can make out some of these details in the 360 photos I uploaded. Regardless - enormous, beautiful, interesting cathedral. Absolutely a must-see in Toulouse.

Wonderful church. The history is very interesting. I visited it as part of an audio tour and loved the story about St Sernin sacrifice.
