Five stars due to one worker that worked miracles for me. Dare I say her name....better not. I stayed at Gerstein for a few days and after went into a Safe House program. During my stay in the Safe House Program I received a call from one of the workers and she informed me that I wasn't off the help list simply because I wasn't at Gerstein Centre. We met and within 24 hours she had miraculously found me housing. She was a true miracle worker. I was on the list already for housing which I assume helped but wow. I was completely impressed with her dedication and belief in me. That moment, that lady changed my life and the direction I was going in. God Bless Gerstein Centre and that terrific support worker. Granted a lot of the people who go through the program (as volunteers or workers) quite frankly don't care it seems. I can't imagine dealing with that kind of job myself at times. You have to have compassion for a job like that. If you don't have the compassion this work isn't for you. Don't do it just because it is any easy college course. Do it for the right reasons. Other than that, I owe my life to the one special worker that went the extra Mile.HWY69 for me. Thank you with all my heart. ;-)

This rating is ONLY for their crisis telephone line. The counselors on this line seem to be very inexperienced with mental health issues and respond with one or two word answers. Ive called many times because their wait time is short (because nobody calls lol) hoping to find a good counselor which happened once or twice. All the other times the counselors seriously suck! Not understanding, hardly responsive. Call other crisis lines, its worth the wait.

I’m currently staying here and have mixed feelings about this place. Basically it’s good if you need shelter but they don’t actually offer support and the staff is in desperate need of personable training, anti-o training and should learn how to speak to folx in crisis. Pros: Clean & nice facility, electronic locks on each door, kitchen with food, 12AM curfew, they don’t search you, they don’t open your door unexpectedly or bother you at all. Cons: Staff is most likely underpaid, overworked, has no anti-O training (transphobic af), remains in their office and you will have to beg for support, no counselling, no groups, if you’re homeless they won’t help you find somewhere to go after, they won’t check on you even if you’re suicidal, staff isn’t good at speaking to people in crisis, because they don’t offer support those dealing with addiction relapse quickly,

Was referred here for crisis, they have poor crisis support. Hung up, they didn’t even call back. Thank god I’m stronger than some.

This is a great resource for people in the downtown area. The staff is very helpful and the centre is very clean and welcoming. If you feel like you are in the midst of a crisis, don't hesitate to call them. This place is a great resource for everyone going through a rough time in their life.
