Toro Sushi

We’ve been enjoying sushi from Toro for over 10 years and the quality of the fish and service has always been amazing. Cannot say enough good things about Mitch, the staff, and the food and service. It’s been great we have been able to support them through delivery during the pandemic and hope to be back soon!

Overall: The inevitable wait is worth the quality. Great tasting sushi, much better than anything else I've had in the city. Definitely will come back when the craving hits again. The good: Best sushi I have had in Chicago, and the best I've ever had in the states. Only sushi I've had that has been better has been in Japan. Reasonable prices too, for sushi anyway. Humble environment with great chefs. Oh, and its BYOB The bad: The waits are LONG. Plan to put your name down and come back. They don't take reservations either. You will most likely have to wait. Atmosphere: 8/10 Service: 8/10 Food: 9/10

We’ve now tried takeout here on two occasions. Toro was recommended by a friend since we noticed a decline in fish quality at sushi restaurants during the pandemic. On that front, Toro continues to have high quality fish. The first time ordering with them, Toro messed up our order and sent us some of the wrong rolls. We called and they offered a discount on a future order over the phone, but never actually sent us the discount. We tried them again tonight, and this time our sushi was missing sauces, had components that weren’t listed (wasabi in the roll, lemon flavored tobiko), and as a result just didn’t taste that good.

How anyone can rate this place less than 5 stars is beyond me. It's perfection. Kamakaze and sunshine- just explosions of deliciousness. This is one of the main things I miss since having moved from Chicago (other than the view).

It's a pretty good neighborhood hole in the wall kinda spot. Very friendly chef and people. You might run into regulars there. They seem to get quite a lot of take out orders.
