Old fashioned fresh food market plus house hold items and clothes. Many vendors offering their wares. Many varieties of fresh fish. Fresh vegetables. Inexpensive clothing and footwear.

The rather tourist orientated market place. A lot of local stuff. Fish and meat sections probably for those of strong stomachs. Great chease and olives. Some tourist souvenirs and a few places to drink a glass of beer or Retsina (local alcoholic drink based on wine).

In every town one of the most interesting places to visit is the market. It does not matter whether they are big or small, but they are always interesting to us. It is always the soul of the place. The Kapani (Vlali) Market is extremely interesting. It is Thessaloniki's oldest public market. We like to observe the people who visit the marketplace, the sellers who sell their products with great passion. The market is full of small shops selling textiles, shoes, home supplies, and flowers on one side. And on the other side richly supplied tables with fish, meat, various Greek cheeses, olive oil, olives, sweets, cakes and small tavernas... The richness of smells and flavors. It is located between the Eleftheriou Venizelou streets, Egnatia, Aristotelous and Ermou. In the center of the city. It's not hard to find it. History of this market is very interesting. Its name comes from the Turkish name \Kapan-i Galle\, which means \grains market\. When the Jewish moved to Thessaloniki, the Greek and Turkish influence gradually diminished. Thus smaller traders came to the fore and gradually gained strength. One of them was Egyptian merchants who established an Egyptian market within the Kapani Market. The market even in our days is having a mixed atmosphere of all the nationalities that lived in Thessaloniki through its history. For the travelers it is a highly recommended destination as it is a very interesting experience to walk inside it and buy traditional food products and various other products, handicrafts ..... And all at a cheap price.

If you like a noisy colorful market with cheap products, this is the place to spend a couple of hours. It's right in the middle of the tourist section/hotels of Thessaloniki

Great place if you want to know how Greek people live, what they eat, how they chose their grocery products, their meat, you can feel Greek for a time losing yourself through the crowds.
