It was a nice pub for dinner on my trip. Weather was really nice to sit outside. The pork belly I had was delicious. Probably atmosphere was a bit difficult during Covid but I have no comparison prior to that.

I want to be sympathetic re Covid but the service and quality was really disappointing. Appreciate this was an 'eat out to help out' night but as this was 26th August they should have had plenty of time to get to grips with the demand. Everything was very slow, a while for our order to be taken, drinks slow, starters were relatively quick but then we waited 20 minutes with dirty plates and had to call someone over to take them and take a new drink order. Had to ask 2nd time for the jug of water we asked for. Empty drinks glasses were never cleared. 1.5 hours after arriving we still hadn't had our mains (which was concerning as we supposedly only had a 2 hour window!) when we chased we were told 'it is a long wait for food tonight'. Understandable but if we were told that at the outset not once we chased I might have made different menu choices e.g. I didn't order starter while my friends did as I wanted a dessert. I might have chosen instead starter and main had I known. Food was ok, pan-fried Salmon was not the fresh fillet (skin-on) that I would have expected, instead it appeared to be a frozen fillet and was overcooked, gnocchi and sauce was good, others had pie or chicken and chorizo which seemed better. Dessert was ok - brownie with hazelnut ice cream, brownie was more like chocolate fudge though. Inconsistent Covid standards also, no one had masks, flakey one-way system, asked to take glasses off tray but handed cutlery unwrapped by hand Waitress apologised for the service on bringing the bill but this felt a little late and a little contrived. This won't be somewhere I rush back to.
The food is generally very good and the staff are very welcoming for the best part. Don’t forget to put your car registration into their machine as you will get fined. Their special food evenings are good value but I seem to spend any savings on their extensive gin collection.
Great pub in a small town. If you are ordering food, make sure you go large with the fish and chips! Literally give you an extra fish! Splendid! :D
Roast Dinner was very lovely but could of done with more vegetables and the potatoes were hard (don't think the potatoes were fresh probably frozen ) but the pudding (see pic) was delicious . Having said that I would visit again, felt safe in this current climate
