The food is very good. The chips have some nice seasoning and give the exact texture/taste you'd want in a chippy meal. I had some Southern Fried Chicken as well which was delicious. The batter had some wonderful flavours and was juicy, though it was a tad strong with the salt. It's probably some of the best chicken of that style I've had in a long time. The staff were friendly as well. I give this place 4 stars, partly because the decoration outside and inside was a bit run down and could use some sprucing up. Also, I found a good few black hairs in my chips (though sometimes that's a mistake that is difficult to avoid even with good hygeine control). Overall, it's a nice place which gives you just what you're looking for.

We live up on the coast of North Wales and also live in a tourist town like Borth. Our fish n chips are loads better and we can't help but think The Surrey is just taking advantage of a transient population - people just being there for a few days. Greasy chips and thick thick batter on the fish which had soaked up loads of grease and made the whole meal quite displeasing. The mushy peas were nice and the old guy who served me was really pleasant, polite and cheerful. A shame the fryer that night couldn't match the skills of the counter staff.

Having heard some good reviews about this place we decided to try it out ourselves. The shop itself looked a bit worse for wear but coming from the midlands I’ve learnt to never judge a book by its cover. I ordered 2 portions of cod and chips and 2 cans of coke, the girl who served it looked like she would rather be anywhere but behind the counter serving. I was firstly impressed at the size of the fish but then that was promptly taken away by her slamming a scoop of chips on top of it and more or less turning my chips into mash. By the time we got back to our caravan and opened them up to eat the grease had come out and the chips tasted awful, the batter was awful but the actual cod itself was fairly nice but the grease put myself and my wife off what could have been a lovely takeaway meal. So hence I will not visit the Surrey again when in Borth and will spend my 15.00 elsewhere, where I can be sure of getting an edible meal and service with a smile.
