Had many an enjoyable evening at the Sugar Loaf public house in Ab Kettleby (first recorded in the Domesday Book as Chetelbi) when we had an acquaintance living in 'Ab' back in the day. Not been back for a while but still think of it fondly. The actual Sugar Loaf pub name has a disputed genealogy with some reference material making a connection to far-off Sugarloaf Mountain in Brazil; alternative references point to an association with the refined 15th to 19th century sugar trade when sugar was made in a conical shape, often called sugar loaf [tbc].
