Stopped here for an impromptu Sunday roast for 2 adults and 3 kids. Fantastic service despite COVID challenges and very friendly owner. Terrific food and best roast dinner since Christmas... when I cooked one! Will definitely call again when passing through Ongar.

This was an exceptional lunch time stop. The pub was very well run and quite relaxed at this difficult time. The locals were extremely polite and helpful, as I had been walking and got lost. The landlady helped charge my phone, whilst I enjoyed a very nice couple of hours. Thanks to all especially dear old Ron.

Fantastic afternoon in the stag. Extremely well set up family pub restaurant. Everything on point. Food beverages service and hospitality. Great facilities outdoors for all plus pet friendly. Would recommend to all. The only way is Ongar. Most of reviews are out of date since new owner took over in march just before lock down. Mick is an exceptional landlord and know his business, hope he stays for a long time.

Love this little pub, garden is beautiful with children's play area, canopy, lighting, out door bar, entertainment on a Sunday which is brilliant, staff and owners are really friendly. Car park, clean, social distancing 5* brilliant pub, lovely food also.

We went on a busy Sunday afternoon when it was jam packed. The only food on offer was a Sunday roast, which didn’t look particularly appetising for the price. Beers are fairly standard and limited with no opportunity to try something new. The play area looks good from the outside but it was very busy with lots of older kids, not allowing the younger ones a chance to enjoy it. I’ll give it another chance during the week but it won’t be my first choice for a pub lunch.
