Get stuffed! In a good way. I called in with family in tow, having been hoping to do so and we were not disappointed. Pubs with a warm, happy vibe can be a rarity, but this has it in abundance. There's a great selection of ales, a nice cost space for all and the food is excellent. Don't expect to eat cheaply, as if you want decent food, you're going to have to pay for it. The menu is not your usual identikit fayre and I was pleased to see deer pie and venison steak on offer, both of which were excellent and generous in portion. The chips were heavenly and we all left stuffed to the gills. Dogs are welcome, as are families.

Myself and some friends took part in a walking challenge Saturday and ended at the Rising Sun. They were so welcoming and laid on a buffet in a reserved area and our first drink for a donation to the charity St Peter's Hospice. Along with some donations from some wonderful locals we paid over 100 in on their behalf. I would highly recommend this charming pub and lovely staff and look forward to returning very soon, blisters allowing.... thank you so much . X

So I booked a table for midday On a Sunday and I can honestly say It was one of the best roast dinners I have ever had. I’ve been a chef for 24 years so know my way around and can give you all an educated review. I had amazing rare roast beef with some amazing heritage carrots, red cabbage, kale, carrot and suede, roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, cauliflower leek and broccoli cheese and probably the best gravy I have had in a very long time. Then after I had a desert which really was top drawer and could have been in a Michelin star restaurant in the world and the general ambience and front of house were warm and friendly but very professional and the wine was suggested and appreciated. I suggest you book a ASAP before it’s impossible to. Thankyou to the rising sun for an amazing Sunday afternoon in these strange times

We've been to the Rising Sun a few times and we've always been very impressed. A few highlights - excellent food, an awesome garden over a river looking to the viaduct and friendly staff. They're also dog friendly inside and out (and happen to be at the start and end of a great walk to the Stanton Drew standing stones) and not unreasonably priced.

Beautifully olde worlde boozer with a good range of West Country ales. Stunning riverside beer garden overlooked by the impressive Pensford viaduct, in view also is the historic Thomas a Becket church. Enjoy. M
