We called for a table last minute and the lovely lady we spoke to squeezed us in. Staff were extremely friendly and the food was amazing too. Lovely home-made dishes, good service and an excellent atmosphere, with the nice addition of an open fire

So, The Old Sun Inn. Upon first seeing the pub we were greeted by just most perfect autumnal scene: the tree out front slurping the last of the glorious colours out of the leaves, the beautifully simple sign outside and, the windows being bathed by the gentle glow of the fire. Aesthetically pleased, we entered. Pretty normal entry to be fair. The staff were delightful, their eyes were smiling even if their faces weren't. The atmosphere was bodacious: being sat, quite serendipitously, next to the open fire, the one thing that helps me enjoy a pub is the music. Sitting down to Depeche Mode - Just Can't Get Enough is never a bad thing. Because of my extraordinary prowess in the art of \drink\ I went in hard and, straight off the bat with an Estrella top (lager and lemonade basically, but not quite a shandy) whilst my friend didn't go quite as hard and went with a Shipyard. Service was as smooth as the head gracing both pints on arrival. To say that that was the best lager top I've ever had is complete truth. To many who read this, it may seem a largely insignificant drink, but the point is this: whoever made it contributed to a huge feeling of joy in my experience of being at the pub - for a seldom pub goer this means a lot. Excellent service. Very friendly and helpful staff. Lovely pint of stout and the ham and mustard pie is full of flavour and filling. Thank you guys, a great start to our time in Buxton

We had an exceptionally brilliant meal (rib eye and chips). The chips we’re AMAZING! Soft inside and crunchy outside. Steak top notch! My husband is a chef and we couldn’t fault the food or the brilliant service. Well done to everyone especially during this difficult season of Covid. We were made to feel so very welcome and highly recommend this establishment! Don’t go anywhere else in Buxton.

A beautifully Bostin pub, very cosy with helpful staff. Need to book, some tables get people walking by!
