This a two part review from my time in Oban. After hearing so much about the battle of the fish and chip shops, I decided to spend a couple of days there so I could decide for myself who truly made Oban's best fish and chips. This part of the review is for The Oban Fish and Chip Shop - if you visit the google review page of Nories you will be able to read my review of their offering. In case you weren't aware, Nories along the road has Gordon Ramsays seal of approval as Oban's best fish and chips, so I wasn't sure what to expect from The Oban Fish and Chip Shop. The picture attached is the fish I received. I cut off a piece of the fish and the crunchy crispiness was just perfect. The fish was night and day compared to Nories. In fact I'd go as far as saying it was some of the nicest batter on a fish I've ever had. It tasted delicious, was super crispy and the fish itself was amazing, not a single bone either I might add (can't say the same for Nories). Have another look at the attached picture in my review and just look at that pot of tartare sauce. A day earlier when I got to Nories, I was excited to try their homemade tartare sauce, however when I asked for some to go with my fish, I was charged 50p for a heinz twist pot. In contrast - look at the pot of the homemade sauce I received from The Oban Fish and Chip Shop, which was just delicious, very fresh and creamy, the gherkin pieces still crunchy which gave it a nice tang. I'm giving Oban fish and chips a 5 star rating. There's not much that could be improved upon and you'd struggle to find much better in any UK home town. I will however return to update this review to confirm The Oban Fish and Chips shop is worthy of the 5 star review once I visit again in the future to prove it wasn't a fluke!

The staff was very friendly and warm welcoming to us. Not only scallops and super-fresh cod/haddock, we all enjoyed ‘chowder’ very much and my little picky eater told that the chowder was my best ever and I totally agree with that. I hope everyone else would enjoy lovely seafood there.
Fish and chips are fresh fried right after ordering which are yummy and not greasy at all. Love the prawns a lot. Fresh and giant prawns. Price is a bit higher than regular fish and chips shop; however, you get what you pay for.
During this period, a supper of any kind can cheer up your day. Waiting in line for something to eat, is mandatory for most places at tea time and this fish n chips shop is the same. I didn't finish my supper (due to big portions) but also didn't get what i originally ordered after waiting in the cold. The worker did ask if i wanted to wait after politely apologising about it. But kinda soured my experience esp when i heard it was one of the best about.
Superb chippy and open on Mondays too! Chap working there a fan of The Cure so good enough for me!
